At Ivy Groupe, we are passionate about authenticity, leadership, success, and impact – these are important to demonstrate not only in your MBA applications, but also throughout your career. As a result, some of our blogs will be dedicated towards these topics.
When faced with a significant undertaking, such as your MBA applications or a project, it’s easy to procrastinate or get distracted; however, these are the enemies of productivity. To be successful with your MBA applications or any other endeavor, it’s important to be able to concentrate on the task at hand. As a result, below are three ways that will help you to be more productive.
Don't put everything on your to-do list
It’s natural to want to put everything on your to-do lists, but is that really the most effective use of your time? To be realistic, most of those tasks will likely not be completed by the end of the day, which will just cause you to feel overwhelmed and stressed.
Instead, focus on your top 3-4 goals and make those a priority BEFORE you tackle your other tasks and activities. For example, I strongly encourage you to systematically work on your MBA applications, step by step, instead of trying to complete it all at once. You will find that by focusing on your top goals and actually making real progress on them during the day, you will feel more satisfied, productive, and fulfilled.
Don't switch between tasks
Switching between tasks and multitasking really does split your focus and attention amongst multiple areas, which actually ends up taking up more time than if you were solely focusing on one task at a time. When toggling between tasks, having to switch, backtrack, and then refocus uses valuable energy, not to mention additional time to gather your thoughts again and remember where you left off. Therefore, try not to juggle multiple things at once; instead, focus on one important priority at a time.
Limit phone usage and social media
Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter – social media has changed our world in so many fundamental ways. Although we may not want to believe it, it IS addicting. With just a swipe, we can get information about our world, our networks, and our family and friends instantaneously in ways we could never have imagined.
Yes, social media provides an easy and effective way of communicating with others, but a text here, responding to an email there, and mindlessly scrolling through news feeds really adds up! By being mindful of the amount of time you are spending on your smartphones and limiting your usage, you can gain precious hours in your day that can be used in a much more productive and fruitful manner (such as towards your MBA applications)!
The above will significantly increase your productivity and help you to successfully accomplish your goals.
